Week Commencing 20th February 2023

Afternoon all

Its a bonny afternoon here in Elgin, sun is out but its still a bit chilly.

The week gone past was nice but not warm, water temperatures would have remained low and I thought after last weeks “rush” we would have had a long report to do but sadly no.

Reports from the river show very little activity, even on the kelt front for the week that was until yesterday when Castle Grant got off the mark. Simon Crozier reported that Garry Grant had landed a cracking fish in Pollowick on a Willie Gunn Conehead. It shows you that the fish are there and sneaking up the river.

With nothing else to report on the river front allow me to update you on the River Spey Anglers Association. We held our annual Flytying Fair in mid January before the season started and had a great day with around 100 people coming to visit us, despite the underlying icy conditions we faced in the car park at Inchberry Hall. We had 13 tyers demonstrating their skills covering Salmon, Trout, Predator and salt water flies, along with a couple of major retailers who had productive days on the sales front.

Our first fishing event of the year takes place on Saturday 1st April when we are hosting a ladies day on the Upper and Middle Brae water courtesy of Gordon Castle. We are hoping to have 12 rods fishing that day, aiming for the majority of these to be beginners and intermediate level fishers. It should be a great day and we are relying on Mother nature to be kind to us!!

If there are any lady anglers out there who would be interested, then spaces are filling up quick so please see our Facebook Page for details on how to register your interest in coming along.

the week ahead looks as if the temperatures are going to stay in single digits so lets see what happens.

Tight lines and apologies for the very short report.
